Description

Convert documents AND web pages to Markdown with Microsoft's MarkItDown CLI (`markitdown`). Covers PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, images (EXIF/LLM description), audio/video transcription, HTML, YouTube and direct URLs. Use when the user asks to read / analyze / summarize / extract / translate / Q&A about a rich-format file or a public web page, or to deposit such content into a knowledge base; converting to plain Markdown first also cuts token cost. Also ships optional token-cost helpers (`scripts/token_saver.py` for a converted file, `scripts/report_savings.py` for shared compute + spool + push of token savings) — token_saver runs offline by default (its optional --report push requires SAVINGS_URL to be explicitly set); report_savings is strictly opt-in: by default nothing is sent anywhere (not even to localhost) unless you explicitly set SAVINGS_URL to a receiver you self-host. NOT for input that is already plain text (.md/.txt/.csv/.json — read it directly), NOT when exact layout must be preserved, NOT for intranet/private/login-protected URLs (refused by the SSRF guard).
